I would like to run Firewalla on my own hardware. I’ve heard from others who have wanted the same. If you go through the comments of the most popular YouTube videos about Firewalla devices you see other people requesting the same. One of the biggest motivations for this is the cost of hardware.
Related to this though, one of the biggest concerns is that Firewalla admin requires cloud access. If you fix that then I think you will rule the world, or at least become much more loved and widely used. I don’t know if you realize how big of a problem you create by forcing admin to be cloud dependent.
Some of the threat processing is done via the cloud afaik. If you want a firewall on your own hardware without cloud access you can use pfsense or opnsense
@rickined right on the point. Even we are called “firewalla”, the firewalla itself is far beyond a simple firewall. In order to make that happen, and given attacks are dynamic, without the cloud feeding threat intel, your firewall is just a simple ubuntu box with static ip table entries
